Sodium Diffusion in Hard Carbon Studied by Small- and Wide-Angle Neutron Scattering and Muon Spin Relaxation

Abstract Hard carbon is the most common anode material for Na-ion battery. The structure of hard and dynamics in were studied with small- wide-angle neutron scattering muon spin relaxation technique. revealed increase interlayer distance between graphenes decrease size nanopores increasing sodium intercalation carbon. that a systematic field fluctuation rate temperature evidenced thermally activated diffusion. Assuming two-dimensional diffusion graphene layers, self-diffusion coefficient was estimated to be 2.6 × 10 −11 cm 2 /s at 310 K, thermal activation energy 39(7) meV.
